FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Ireland offers English-medium higher education across universities, technological universities and specialist institutions, with study options in areas such as technology, business, engineering, pharmaceuticals and life sciences. Students should compare programme content, entry requirements, tuition, living costs and post-study options before applying.

Tuition fees vary by institution, subject and study level. For 2025/26, published non-EU undergraduate tuition ranges from about €10,300 to €62,500 per year, while postgraduate tuition ranges from about €11,000 to €40,000 depending on the field. Medicine and health sciences can have substantially higher fees. Always confirm the exact fee with the institution.

Requirements vary by institution and programme, but students may need academic qualifications, proof of English-language ability, a valid passport and programme-specific documents. Students who require immigration permission must also meet the relevant financial, insurance and immigration requirements. Check the university and current Irish immigration guidance for the exact requirements.

For visa-required students taking a course resulting in a stay of more than eight months, current Irish immigration guidance requires evidence of immediate access to at least €10,000, in addition to course fees. For shorter courses, the financial requirement is €833 per month or €6,665 in total, whichever is lower. Requirements should be rechecked before applying.

Eligible students with Stamp 2 permission can work up to 20 hours per week during term time and up to 40 hours per week during the designated holiday periods. Students must follow the conditions attached to their immigration permission.

Stamp 1G is the immigration permission available under Ireland's Third Level Graduate Programme to eligible graduates who have completed a qualifying Irish award. It allows eligible graduates to remain in Ireland to seek employment and work full time, subject to the applicable conditions. A standard Stamp 1G period is 12 months, with a possible additional 12 months for eligible master's graduates.

Eligible graduates can receive up to 12 months of Stamp 1G, while eligible master's graduates may receive a further 12 months subject to the programme's conditions. Stamp 1G is intended to allow eligible graduates to seek employment after completing their studies.

No. Students from outside the EEA generally need to choose a programme that meets the current requirements for student immigration permission. Check the exact course and provider eligibility before paying fees or making travel arrangements.

Yes. Non-EEA students coming to Ireland for study are required to have private medical insurance. Students should confirm the required coverage and documentation for their visa and immigration-registration process.

Starting 12–18 months before your preferred intake gives you time to compare programmes, meet English-language requirements, prepare documents, arrange funding and research accommodation. Application and visa timelines vary, so check the institution's deadline and current Irish immigration guidance for your situation.
